If you like offense, the BYU-Virginia game was for you.
In just the first half alone, No. 25 BYU and Virginia combined for 80 points and 832 yards of total offense. The 80 points were the most combined points in a FBS game this season.
While most people expected the game to be a shootout between two great offenses, nobody expected the first half to be as explosive as it was. If you blinked, you missed a score as the first half consisted of 11 touchdowns, four punts and one field goal.

After BYU jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead midway through the first quarter, Virginia came right back in the second quarter as the Cavaliers scored 35 points to take a 42-38 lead into halftime. The 52 combined points in the second quarter were the most points in any quarter in BYU history.
According to ESPN, Virginia is just the fourth team to lead at halftime despite allowing 38+ points. Here’s how the college football world reacted to the entertaining, yet wild first half:
Two games early 3rd quarter. Hard to believe it's the same sport:
Washington leads Stanford 9-3 (4 field goals)
BYU leads UVA 45-42 (12 touchdowns)

Virginia 42,
BYU 38
HalftimeCougars finding some unlikely success against the pack line defense of the Cavaliers. Will need to hit a few more threes in the second half to win, however.

i stepped away for a bit and byu literally scored before i got back

What is going on with this byu game right nowβ¦ 42-38 at half? Over 800 yards of offense for both teams combined. My kind of game πππ. #offenseonly #lightupthescoreboard

I knew BYU/Virginia was going to be high scoring but I didnβt see Arena League Football type scoring.

.@UVAFootball is the fourth team in FBS history to lead at halftime despite allowing 38+ PTS (Navy 49, N Texas 45 in 2007; Fresno St 42, San Jose St 41 in 2013; Marshall 49, Western Ky 42 in 2014). @EliasSports

It felt like the offense was struggling a bit in the 2nd quarter but they still had 17 points. This game is just a ridiculous shootout.
— CougarStats (@CougarStats) October 31, 2021
BYU's worst quarter since giving up 35 to Utah in first quarter of the 2015 Las Vegas Bowl, which ironically was Bronco's last game at BYU. This might have been worse, because turnovers weren't involved. Just a total defensive failure.
— Jay Drew (@drewjay) October 31, 2021
this has to be the worst 18 minutes of defense in BYU football history

Did BYU hold a costume contest to see who'd play defense tonight?

It took less than two minutes of the second half for the next TD in Virginia-BYU. 87 points and counting, with 28 minutes to play.

We have a three and out. Stop the game and make a presentation to the BYU defense.
