The NBA Draft Lottery never disappoints and that was certainly the case Tuesday night as the New Orleans Pelicans were awarded the No. 1 overall pick.

It was the first time in franchise history that the Pelicans have the No. 1 pick. New Orleans had just a six percent chance of landing the top pick coming into the draft, but as the saying goes, “may the odds be ever in your favor.”

Rounding out the top five were the Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Despite having the worst record in the NBA and the best odds to receive the top pick, Knicks fans had to settle for the No. 3 pick. However, for Lakers fans, Tuesday night could have not gone much better as they made the biggest leap of the night going from a projected No. 11 slot, all the way up to No. 4. According to prognosticators, the Lakers had just a 9.4% chance of jumping into the top four, but that’s all they needed.

The biggest loser of the night were the Phoenix Suns, who had the second-worst record in the regular season, and a 14 percent chance of getting the No. 1 pick. After receiving the No. 1 pick last year, the ping pong balls did not bounce their way as they slid all the way down to No. 6.
