What a game!
The nightcap of the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden didn’t disappoint as the Kansas Jayhawks took on the Duke Blue Devils in a game featuring some of top college basketball stars in the country.
With the game all tied up at 75, and with 8.2 seconds left, Kansas point guard Frank Mason III took the inbounds pass up the court and drove to his left before pulling up for the 15-foot game-winning shot.
Swish.
The ball hit nothing but the bottom of the net as to give the Jayhawks it’s eighth win over an AP No. 1 team. Kansas’ last No. 1 win came last year against then-No. 1 Oklahoma, in a 109-106, triple overtime victory at the Allen Fieldhouse. With the win, Kansas is now 8-16 all-time against No. 1 teams.

“The play was to ‘iso’ me,” Mason told reporters after the game. “My teammates did a good job spacing the floor out. I took advantage of separation I created and just shot the ball. It felt good when it left my hand.”
“It was quite a play we called, just to get out of his way. ‘Go shoot it,’ ’’ Kansas head coach Bill Self said smiling afterwards. “I don’t know if he’s made game-winners (at KU). He’s made a lot of plays to put games in overtime. He’s a stud.”
Kansas had a seven point lead with just under two minutes to go but Duke came roaring back like it did all game. Senior guard Grayson Allen scored on a layup and then freshman Frank Jackson knocked down a 3-pointer to tie the game at 75.
And that’s when Mason, who had a team-high 21 points, stole the show as the senior hit the game-winning basket.
