Villanova’s Donte DiVincenzo had a game to remember.
Before the game was even over, the sophomore guard could only smile as the crowd chanted his name “Di-Vin-cen-zo, Di-Vin-cen-zo.”
Despite not being a starter, DiVincenzo stole the show as he came off the bench to score 31 points to give the Wildcats a 79-62 blowout victory over Michigan at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The redhead kid helped Villanova with another blowout tournament victory and give the Wildcats their second NCAA Championship in three seasons.
The sophomore put the cherry on top when he scored nine straight points for Villanova midway through the second half, including a long 3-pointer that hit nothing but net before turning and smiling and then winking over to TV announcers Jim Nantz, Grant Hill and Bill Raftery on the sideline.
Villanova’s dominating tournament performance put it among the top teams in NCAA history as the Wildcats won all six tournament games by double digits. Villanova now joins elite company with Michigan State (2000), Duke (2001) and North Carolina (2009) all accomplishing that same feat.
After setting a Final Four record with 18 3-pointers on Saturday against Kansas, Villanova relied on its defense to hold off a streaking Michigan team.

DiVincenzo finished the night with 31 points and was 10-of-15 from the field, including going 5-of-7 from downtown to easily take home the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors.
Mikal Bridges finished with 19 points in what will likely be his final season before moving on to the NBA. Player of the Year Jalen Brunson was held to just nine points, but it didn’t matter with all the weapons Villanova had.
What A Year: It’s been a crazy couple of months for the city of Philadelphia. After the Eagles took home the Super Bowl title in February, the Wildcats added an NCAA title two months later.
