BYU defeated Baylor in thrilling fashion Tuesday night as the Cougars hung on for a 93-89 overtime victory in front a near sellout crowd of 17,297 inside the Marriott Center.

The showdown between BYU and Baylor brought all of the stars were out, including MMA legend Conor McGregor to watch some Big 12 after dark basketball.

In addition to McGregor, more than 30 NBA scouts were in attendance to watch BYU star freshman Egor Demin, and Baylor freshman V.J. Edgecombe battle it out. Both are expected to be Top 10 picks this year in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Both players put on a performance, showcasing why they’ll likely be consensus lottery picks in the NBA Draft in June. Demin scored 15 points and six rebounds, while Edgecombe finished with a game-high 28 points, including going 6-of-8 from downtown.

Not to be outdone, another BYU freshman Kanon Catchings, made sure to put on a show in front of the scouts. Catchings, who was a starter at the beginning of the year and then lost his spot, showed why many consider him to be a late first round pick this year. He couldn’t have put on a better performance as he became the only Division I freshman this century to go 8-for-8 or better from the field, 4-for-4 or better from downtown, and 3-for-3 or better from the free throw line in a single game.

Richie Saunders scored 17 points and had six rebounds and Trevin Knell added 11 points.

For Baylor, Robert Wright finished with 22 points and six assists, while Norchad Omier and Jayden Nunn combined for 23 points.

BYU leads the overall series 7-6. The Cougars will take their 3-game winning streak to Florida to take on UCF. Meanwhile, Baylor looks to boucne back in a home game against No. 11 Kansas.
