I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, BYU got screwed by the College Football Playoff Committee and most national media members and college football fans finally realized that Saturday night when the Cougars took on Colorado in the Alamo Bowl.

Despite having a Top 10 resume the entire season, the Cougars — with two losses coming by a combined nine points and a team that was just 10 yards away from winning both of those games — the playoff committee did BYU dirty by dropping them 13 spots in those two down-to-the-wire losses.

The steep drop made sure the Cougars weren’t in the conversation for the final playoff spot as all the attention was given to SMU — a team that BYU beat on the road — and three SEC programs (Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina) that finished 9-3 and had a worse resume than BYU.

No. 17 BYU Crushes No. 23 Colorado 36-14 — Here’s All The Reactions

After Saturday night’s dominating 36-14 victory over No. 23 Colorado in the Alamo Bowl in front of a sellout crowd of more than 64,000, social media went off about how BYU was snubbed of the first-ever 12-team college football playoff.

This comes after all four first-round games in the playoffs were blowouts. Notre Dame beat Indiana (27-17) in a game that wasn’t even close as the Fighting Irish were up 27-3 with under two minutes to go in the game. Texas cruised past Clemson 38-24, Ohio State whipped Tennessee 42-17, and Penn State dominated SMU 38-10.

With Colorado coming in with Travis Hunter — the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner — and Sheduer Sanders, who is expected to be the No. 1 quarterback taken in the draft, all eyes were on the duo which are expected to go Top 3 in the NFL Draft next April.

With the game in primetime and with the entire country watching, BYU made sure to make a statement as it led from start to finish in the blowout victory.

With such a dominant victory, the Cougars even had Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson singing their praises on their podcast about how much faster, stronger and tougher BYU looked against Colorado.

This led social media to ask questions as to why BYU wasn’t even mentioned in the College Football Playoff conversation, while other teams were: SMU, Ole Miss, Indiana and South Carolina.

While it’s the case of too little, too late, at least the Cougars got the opportunity to play in primetime against the biggest opponent — viewership wise — in games not involving the playoff. The Cougars certainly made the most of it as they had the entire country singing their praises and calling out the college football playoff committee.

While nobody will admit it, preseason rankings absolutely impact the playoff rankings and a preseason Top 15 ranking — which the Cougars will likely get next year — will put BYU in the final conversations for an at-large spot should the Cougars go 10-2 again. With so many starters coming back on both sides of the ball, BYU will be one of the favorites to win the Big 12 title next year.
