Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees set an NFL record Monday night and did so in front of a prime-time national audience and the home crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The 39-year-old quarterback had one of the best performances of his 18-year career as he  completed 26-of-29 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns.

During the first half of the Saints’ 43-19 victory over the Washington Redksins, Brees became the NFL’s all-time passing leader on Monday night, breaking Peyton Manning’s record of 71,940 career passing yards with a 62-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Tre’Quan Smith. And to top it off, Brees’ completion percentage of 89.7, a career best.

Players and celebrities took to social media to offer their congratulations:

Manning taped a message to Brees, which was shown in the stadium when he broke the record.
