The BYU basketball team won its eighth consecutive game as the Cougars closed out the Big 12 regular season with a dominating 85-74 home victory over rival Utah.

It took some time to get going, but once they got going, the Cougars couldn’t be stopped as they pushed the lead to 20+ in the second half, in front of a sold-out crowd of 17,978 inside the Marriott Center.

Dawson Baker led the Cougars in scoring with 15 points off the bench. Richie Saunders added 14, Keba Keita had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Egor Demin added 10 points and seven rebounds in the win. Demin also had a game-high six assists which moved him up to 16th on the single season assist list passing Brian Taylor (1987-88 and Matt Carlino (2013-14).

Speaking of milestones, Mihailo Boskovic tied a career-high with 11 points off the bench, including several key baskets in the first half to help jump start the big first half run to end the half.

Once again, BYU weathered a sluggish start on offense in the first half. The Cougars started 0 of 13 from 3-point range before Baker and Boskovic knocked down back-to-back triples to end the drought.

Utah took advantage of BYU’s cold shooting as they jumped out to a 26-21 lead thanks to the 3-point shooting of Miro Little, who had a game-high 21 points and six 3-pointers. Additionally, Ezra Ausar had another fantastic game against the Cougars as the junior had another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

However, a late run and a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer in the first half from Dallin Hall gave the Cougars a 34-30 lead and all the momentum entering the second half.

And that’s as close as Utah would get as the Cougars keep their foot on the gas en route to the double-digit win.

With the victory, BYU finishes the regular season with a 15-2 home record, tying for the most wins at home under a first-year head coach in program history. The Cougars also improve to 135-131 in the all-time basketball series and have won .

Meanwhile, up north, the Utes have struggled, losing four of their last five games, including firing their coach in a stunning move that sent shockwaves throughout the country. Alex Jensen will become the new head coach in what should be a great move for the program.
