Gonzaga was heavily favored.
They were the No. 1 team in the country playing their last home game of the season in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,000 at the McCarthey Athletic Center on Senior Night. They were perfect and looking to finish the regular season undefeated at 30-0.
But it didn’t matter to BYU.
The Cougars made program history — beating the No. 1 team in the nation — Saturday night in a 79-71 win over the Zags. Eric Mika led the way with a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead BYU to the upset victory.
The upset sent shockwaves throughout the country and it was amplified after somebody leaked a photo on Twitter of the Spokesman-Review planning to run a sports cover that had the Zags finishing the season undefeated.
Here’s all the reaction from Saturday’s big game.

Eric Mika had 29 pts, 11 rebs, 2 blks tonight. Imagine if he hadn't spent the last 2 years on a Mormon mission NOT touching a basketball.
