Sick of NBA super teams yet? We’ll join the club.
The NBA Playoffs used to be exciting with superstars spread out across the league which provided for some wild and must-see playoff action.
Remember when Reggie Miller scored eight points in nine seconds to lead the Indiana Pacers to a stunning Game 1 victory over the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals?
What about John Stockton’s buzzer-beating shot against the Houston Rockets that sent the Utah franchise to its first-ever NBA Finals?
During this time, Miller and the Pacers went up against Patrick Ewing, while the Jazz took on Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon.
There was balance all over the league with David Robinson and Tim Duncan forming the “Twin Towers” with the Spurs, Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp with the Supersonics, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal with the Lakers and Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen with the Bulls.
But now, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors are on a collision course to meet in the NBA Finals for the third year in a row — an NBA record.
Boring!
Remember when championships meant something and championship rings were supposed to be earned? Not anymore.
The NBA continues to hurt its fans as the league lets superstars form super teams as star players join forces in order to stack the deck in their favor.
So instead of half the league with a legitimate shot to get to the NBA Finals, we are left with just 2-3 teams (Cavs, Warriors, Spurs) these days who continue to own the league.
Warriors finish a 4-game sweep of Jazz.
This is first season in NBA history in which 2 teams started postseason 8-0

The Warriors have Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala. Meanwhile, the Cavs have LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Korver, Kevin Love and Deron Williams. The Spurs also have their own “Fab 5” with Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Pau Gasol, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.
And with the Spurs having just lost Parker to a season-ending injury along with the Rockets losing Nene for the year as well, the Warriors now have an easier path to the NBA Finals where it will more than likely meet the Cavs who just swept the Raptors to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
You can be sure that when this does happen, the groans will only get louder for NBA commissioner Adam Silver to stop the league from forming super teams and in the words of Presiden Trump, “make basketball great again.”
