Golden-Knights-Stanley-Cup-Final

The Vegas Golden Knights have done what many considered impossible. As an expansion team, no one expected much from them. Instead, they’re proving their doubters wrong at every turn.

After beating Winnipeg on Sunday afternoon, add Western Conference champions with a chance to play for the Stanley Cup to the growing list of improbable events that have occurred for Vegas as an expansion team.

Game 5 started like the last three games, with the Golden Knights eager to find the back of the net first and take an early lead. They did exactly that just 5:11 into the first period when a Winnipeg turnover in its own zone gave Alex Tuch a golden opportunity, and he took advantage to give Vegas a 1-0 lead.

Winnipeg battle back with the help of the home crowd, and Josh Morrissey evened up the score at the 2:46 mark of the first period.

Much like previous games after letting its lead slip, the Golden Knights responded again. At the 6:39 point of the second period, Luca Sbisa fired a shot that Ryan Reaves redirected with his stick into the net, giving Vegas a 2-1 lead.

After multiple chances for both sides – including three power plays for the Jets – the Golden Knights defense and the play of goalie Marc Andre-Fleury kept Winnipeg off the scoreboard until the final whistle, giving Vegas a 2-1 win and a 4-1 series victory.

Now the most exciting and unforeseen run will continue to the Stanley Cup Final. Vegas has branded themselves as “The Golden Misfits”, a team full of players not wanted enough by their former teams to be left unprotected in the Expansion Draft or traded to Vegas. They’ve proved their doubters wrong all season, and as the Cinderella run continues, they’re keeping their eyes on the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup.
