Well, that was awkward.
After No. 14 North Carolina escaped with a thrilling 89-86 overtime victory on the road against Clemson, things got pretty heated between the two head coaches at Littlejohn Coliseum.
As North Carolina head coach Roy Williams went up to shake Brad Brownell’s hand during the postgame handshake, he was given an earful from the Clemson head coach.
As you can see in the video below, Brownell begins yelling at Williams and then starts waving his index finger in Williams’ face. The confrontation lasted about 10 seconds, but it probably felt like an eternity for Williams.
Neither coach would say what was talked about in the postgame interviews, but several reporters suggested that the altercation took place because of the way one of the Tar Heel players acted at the end of the game. Apparently, North Carolina forward Kennedy Meeks said something to the Clemson bench at the end of the game and that’s what set off Brownell.
Told by multiple sources that Brad Brownell was upset about something Kennedy Meeks was saying to Clemson bench at end of game.

The altercation overshadowed a brilliant performance by Joel Berry II who finished with a career-high 31 points and seven 3-pointers in the win. If fans want a rematch, they are going to have to hope they meet in the ACC Tournament since both teams don’t meet again in the regular-season.
