The drought is over.
After winning the World Cup on its home soil in 1998, France erased 20 years of misery as Les Bleus won its second World Cup title after defeating Croatia in a thrilling 4-2 victory.
France entered the tournament as a favorite, powered by its young stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann, while Croatia was seen as a longshot for victory.
Playing in its first-ever World Cup final, Croatia seemed destined to hoist the World Cup trophy as they came into Sunday’s contest with plenty of experience as the Croatian’s made history as the first team to get to the final after winning three straight extra time games.
France took a 1-0 lead after in the 18th minute after Griezmann was taken down just outside the box for a dangerous free kick which later turned out to be an own goal to give Les Bleus the lead.
Croatia answered right back just 10 minutes later. After a free kick, France failed to clear the ball out before the ball landed to Ivan Perisic who controlled the ball before blasting a left-footed shot into the bottom corner to tie the score at 1-1.
Griezmann gave France back the lead in the 38th minute as he easily made his penalty kick to give Les Bleus a 2-1 halftime lead. France then pushed the lead to 4-1 thanks to goals from Pogba and Mbappe.
