Fan Buys Dirk Nowitzki Lunch For Taking Another Massive Pay Cut For The Benefit Of The Team

Dirk Nowitzki is a 13-time NBA All-Star, he’s the 2007 NBA MVP, and earned the NBA Finals MVP award after leading the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Championship in 2011.

Now the legend is in the news thanks to a Mavericks fan who sent Nowitzki an awesome card with a $20 bill inside.

“You been taken discounts the past six years to help the team bring talent and a title,” the note said. “Lunch is on me big fella!”

Nowitzki posted the card on Twitter to extend his appreciation to the anonymous fan.

After resigning with the franchise and taking a massive pay cut to do so for the benefit of the team, a fan wanted to show the 7-foot power forward his good works did not go unnoticed.

Entering his 20th NBA season, all of which have been with the Mavericks, the 39-year-old opted not to exercise his $25 million option for the upcoming season, and instead, signed a two-year, $10 million-dollar deal with Dallas to make room for the front office to bring in some more stars. In doing so, Nowitzki took a significant pay cut, one of many in his career to show his support to the team and the community.

ESPN reports that Nowitzki has left up to $194 million on the table to remain with Dallas over the course of his career. Talk about giving the franchise the home town discount!
