After a tough stretch that featured games against LSU, Wisconsin, Boise State, Mississippi State and rival Utah, many expected the Cougars’ struggles to disappear going up against lowly East Carolina who came into Saturday’s game with just one win on the year.
With BYU averaging just over 10 points per game during that stretch, the Pirates looked to be the perfect recipe for the Cougars who looked to get back on track with an ECU defense that was giving up nearly 50 points and 600 yards per game before the Cougars came to town.
But like it has all season, the Cougar offense couldn’t put drives together thanks to penalties, turnovers, questionable play calls from offensive coordinator Ty Detmer and poor throws by junior quarterback Tanner Mangum. The last time BYU lost seven games in a row was back in 1968 and after seeing enough, fans even changed the Wikipedia notes on Detmer, BYU’s only Heisman Trophy winner to vent their frustration.
Wikipedia on Ty Detmer right now. No, it wasn't me that edited it. ? #BYUfootball #byu #byuvsecu #itwasntme #TyDetmer @boneyfuller pic.twitter.com/NuLlsJSBPx

And as the final seconds ticked off the clock, many former BYU football players vented their frustrations on Twitter after another disappointing and frustrating night for a program who has been very consistent over the past half decade.
Here is what they had to say:
I've written and erased 253 tweets tonight.

There will be changes made after this performance. Don't know what they'll be, but they'll be made.

Juco WRs & Juco RBs should be BYU # 1 recruiting priority. We need playmakers. We need guys that can play day 1.
— Coach Corby Eason (@ceason88) October 22, 2017
Agreed. But he needs to make tuff whole sale changes for the sake of the program.even if it means straining friendships. https://t.co/pyN5bSxXNG

…but for things to improve there will have to be drastic change or the results will stay the same. Embrace those changes and trust. https://t.co/W6x25LJET6

Is this bad luck or poor training ?

Bad luck would be single digits. Not 35 people https://t.co/ebt2hBa976

BYU Football: Ty Detmer’s Fears As OC Play Out And Why He Was Hesitant About Taking The Job
Oh man! BYU film review is painful.
Dropped passes, a corner falling down, a slow pass rusher, RB's missing blocking assignments. Painful— Hans Olsen (@975Hans) October 22, 2017
There needs to be HUGE changes. Starting with Strength and conditioning coach. The most important assistant coach. Its time for @Penny_1. https://t.co/d4y7u8Um14

I really didn’t think I’d say this, but ECU is dominating the line of scrimmage.
