Red Sox Win World Series; Earns Fourth Title In 15 Years

Boston Red Sox 2018 World Champions

They did it!

The Boston Red Sox had a season to remember and capped it off in style as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-1, Sunday night to take home another World Series trophy with a  4-1 series win.

David Price proved his postseason fortitude, Steve Pearce hit two home runs to finish off a one-sided World Series.

No matter where the game was played, the Red Sox felt at home as the club went 7-1 on the road in the postseason and 10-0 overall when scoring first.

After more than a half century of torment, Red Sox fans ended a 86-year championship drought in 2004 and have now become baseball’s team of the century with four titles in 15 seasons.

“Seeing all these grown men over there, just acting like kids, that’s what it’s all about,” Price told reporters after the game. “This is why I came to Boston.”

After losing the season-opener, The Red Sox bounced back in a big way as they jumped out to a 17-2 start and finished the regular season with a club-record 108 wins. The team also stormed through the playoffs with a 11-3 record and defeated not only a 100-win New York Yankees team, but also the defending champions in the Houston Astros (103 wins). Alex Cora, a player on Boston’s 2007 champions team, became the first manager from Puerto Rico to win a title and just the fifth rookie skipper overall.

Pearce hit a two-run homer on Clayton Kershaw’s sixth pitch. Solo homers by Mookie Betts in the sixth inning and J.D. Martinez in the seventh leave the Los Angeles crowd stunned. Pearce added a solo drive off Pedro Baez in the eighth to put he icing on the cake. Pearce, was selected the MVP of Series after the game.

“Best feeling in my life,” Pearce said, smiling.

After the final out, thousands of Red Sox fans remained on the first-base side of the stadium chanting “Let’s go Red Sox!” and singing “Sweet Caroline.”
