Records and streaks were broken Saturday night as No. 13 Utah took down No. 17 Arizona State, 21-3, at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Zack Moss scored two touchdowns and broke Utah’s career rushing record in the process on a cold and rainy day in Salt Lake City. The win was an important one for the Utes who took another step forward to repeating as Pac-12 South Champs and avenge last year’s Pac-12 Championship loss.
The victory ended the Sun Devils’ three-game winning streak in the series. Utah’s defense also got in on the action as the defense dominated the entire night and ended Arizona State’s streak of 125 games of scoring more than 10 points. The last time the Sun Devils failed to reach 10 points, was a 28-0 loss to USC in 2008.
AP Top 25 Poll: Utah And Oregon Move Up, Wisconsin And Arizona State Fall
Arizona State running back Eno Benjamin ran for 104 yards and was the only bright spot for the Sun Devils as the offense managed just 136 yards of total offense. Freshman Jayden Daniels — who picked Arizona State over Utah last year — had one of the worst outings for a quarterback this season as the freshman finished the game completing 4 of 18 passes for 25 yards and an interception. He was also sacked three times.
On the other side, Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley — who left the game with an injury — had another efficient game as the senior threw for 171 yards and ran for 32 yards on the ground. Huntely did throw his first interception of the season, but overall, the senior helped the Utes lead from start to finish.
Salute the new rushing leader!
Zack Moss has broken Eddie Johnson’s 31-year-old @Utah_Football record for career rushing yards.
Johnson had 3,219 yds. on 564 attempts (1984-88) in 48 games. @PresMoss2, playing in his 38th career game, now has 3,245 yards on 566 carries. https://t.co/n9HmXk1cas

Breaking Records
Despite nearly getting knocked out of the game on a dirty hit, Moss returned minutes later to score Utah’s second touchdown of the game and give the Utes a 14-0 lead right before the half.
Arizona State’s defense focused on Moss, yet the senior still managed to run for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Moss’ 32-yard touchdown run to put the game away in the fourth quarter and helped him pass Eddie Johnson (3,219 yards) and become the school’s all-time leading rusher with 3,264 yards.
Here’s how fans, players and coaches reacted after the game:
Thank you Rice-Eccles Stadium! Your loyalty and devotion to @Utah_Football doesn’t go unnoticed! See ya next week ? #GoUtes

And according to @TheHumanDetour he was knocked down 53 times in 52 plays. He was abused all night long. He’s trip back to Utah wasn’t very welcoming. I liked it.

Still thinking about the Utes victory.
Jaylon Johnson has made some serious money over the last two weeks and may be the first CB taken in next years NFL Draft.
Tonight he kept a top 3 conference receiver to 1 catch and 7 yards. ?
Mad props @NBAxJay1 ??
