It was the Zach Wilson show early and often Friday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium as the junior quarterback led No. 22 BYU (3-0) to a 45-14 blowout victory over Louisiana Tech (2-1).

The dual-threat quarterback had five total touchdowns on the night, including three rushing touchdowns. His last touchdown run put him in Taysom Hill territory as it was the first time since 2014 (41-7 win at Texas) that a quarterback rushed for three touchdowns.

Wilson also got it down through the air as the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder completed 24 of 26 passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Most importantly, he did not have any interceptions either.

It was the second consecutive game that Wilson has thrown for more than 300 yards after going off for 392 yards last week in the win over Troy. It also marked the first time since 2015 (Tanner Mangum) that a quarterback had consecutive 300+ yard games.

Wilson also made history by becoming the first BYU quarterback to record three straight games in a single season with a pass efficiency rating of 200+. Steve Sarkisian had three straight games of 200+, however, it was over the 1995 and 1996 seasons.

BYU’s offense racked up 513 yards of total offense and has now scored more than 40 points in three consecutive games. The last time that happened was back in 2014.

Wilson’s favorite targets were junior wide receivers Gunner Romney and Dax Milne who combined for 14 catches and 190 yards and touchdown.

Romney set a career high with seven receptions and now has three consecutive games of more than 100 yards receiving. Milne has tied his career-best with seven receptions after hauling in the same amount against Troy last week.

Sophomore running back Tyler Allgeier had 10 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown, and would have had another if his 50+ yard touchdown run wasn’t called back for stepping out of bounds.

Just how dominating have the Cougars been?

First, the Cougars are outscoring their opponents 148-24 so far this season. Scoring margin of +124 points is the largest through the first three games of a season since 1977 (+133 points).

BYU has racked up 1,757 yards of total offense through the three games, the second highest after the 1983 squad totaled 1,801 yards.

On defense, the Cougars have allowed just 24 combined points through the first three games. This is tied for the least amount of points allowed since 1952 (also, 24 points).

Next up for BYU is another home game as the Cougars (3-0) take on UTSA (3-0) next Saturday.
