If you liked watching field goals, then Saturday’s game between No. 18 LSU and Auburn was about as good of a game as you will ever see.
In all, eight field goals we made with Auburn’s Daniel Carlson going 6-for-6 to lead the Tigers to a 18-13 victory at home. It was kicking paradise until the last play of the game.
With Auburn up 18-13, and with eight seconds left in the game, the Tigers had the ball on the 10-yard line on fourth-and-six.
LSU quarterback Danny Etling completed a pass to Travin Dural for an eight-yard gain but he couldn’t get out of bounds. The Tigers were then called for an illegal forward shift, and officials called for the down to be re-played, putting LSU on the 15-yard line.
With only one second left on the clock, LSU tried to hurry and get a play off which they initially thought they had done.
Etling danced in the pocket before rolling to his right where he found D.J. Shark in the back of the end zone for a 15-yard game-winning touchdown pass, setting off a crazy, yet short-lived celebration by LSU players and coaches.

“It was unbelievable,” LSU center Ethan Pocic told reporters after the game after he thought they had won the game.”
“One second you do but then one second you don’t, but that’s college football,” he added.
The play was overturned after replay officials determined that the Tigers had not snapped the ball before the clock hit zero.
LSU star running back Leonard Fournette had 16 carries and a game-high 101 yards on the ground in the losing effort.
Lucky Cap: Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn was ready to try anything to get a win for his Auburn Tigers. Malzahn relinquished offensive play-calling duties and then took his daughters’ advice by trading in his usual game-day visor for a cap.
Next Opponents
Auburn: Auburn will take a break from SEC play as it hosts Louisiana-Monroe before going on the road the following week for the first time this season.
LSU: The Tigers will take on Missouri in a home game next Saturday night. It will only be the second meeting between the teams and the first as SEC rivals. In the previous meeting, Missouri won 20-15 in the 1978 Liberty Bowl.
