The Washington Nationals are World Champions!
With a 6-2 come-from-behind victory over the Houston Astros, the Washington Nationals did the impossible as they rallied for yet another road victory Wednesday night in Game 7 of the 2019 World Series.
The ending was fitting for the Nationals as it capped of one of the craziest postseason runs in Major League Baseball history. With the win, the Nationals went 5-0 in elimination games and won eight consecutive road games to tie the record which was held by the New York Yankeed in 1996.

The Nationals’ run was even more unexpected as the team started the season with a losing record at 19-31. Yet, like they have all season, the team didn’t give up and never stopped believing as the franchise won its first-ever World Series.
While it was a crazy series from both sides, what even made it more bizarre, was that it was the first time in World Series history that the road team has won all seven games. So much for home field advantage.
Down 2-0, the Astros were just nine outs away from winning the World Series. In fact, according to ESPN’s win probability model, the Astros an 88% chance to win the game at that moment.

Then Anthony Rendon stepped up to the plate. After hitting a home run the night before to help the Nationals force a Game 7, Rendon stepped up once again as he hit a solo shot to cut the deficit to 2-1.
After Juan Soto drew a walk, Howie Kendrick stepped up to the plate. The 36-year-old, who hit the series-winning grand slam against the Dodgers, was swinging for the fences once again. After missing a curveball, Kendrick made sure to not miss again as he hit a towering shot for a two-run home run to give Washington the lead.
Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named the 2019 World Series Most Valuable Player. The 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher allowed just four runs, three walks and had 14 strikeouts in 14 innings for the Nationals. He also became the first pitcher to finish the postseason with a 5-0 record.
