The defending national champions made a statement Saturday night in the ACC Championship game.
Trevor Lawrence threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 3 Clemson to its fifth consecutive ACC title with a 62-17 victory over No. 22 Virginia. Tee Higgins hauled in nine catches for 182 yards and three touchdowns as both Lawrence and Higgins helped set several ACC championship records for points (62) and yards (621).
The win was Clemson’s 28th consecutive victory as the Tigers head to the College Football Playoff with chance for a third title in four years.
Not to be outdone, Clemson running back Travis Etienne rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown in the win. It was Etienne’s eighth game over 100 yards this season.
Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins, the ACC’s leader in total offense, had 324 of the Cavaliers’ 387 yards, which were a season high allowed by Clemson’s defense this season.
Clemson will likely face LSU or Ohio State in the national semifinals. The Tigers will find who they will be playing on Sunday.
