Bye, bye Clemson. There’s a new No. 1 team in the polls this week.

After the Tigers squeaked out a 21-20 victory over North Carolina, Clemson dropped to No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The Tigers received just 18 first-place votes after receiving 55 the previous week.

Alabama climbed into the top spot after the Crimson Tide took down Ole Miss with an impressive 59-31 victory. Alabama received 29 first-place votes, up from six last week. This is the 119th time that Alabama has been ranked No. 1, the most of any school since the AP poll started in 1936.

Georgia, Ohio State and LSU rounded out the Top 5. The Buckeyes easily beat Nebraska 48-7 in Saturday’s primetime game and picked up several first-place votes in the process to pass LSU.

Utah checks in at No. 17, up two spots after an impressive 38-13 victory over Washington State. The Utes are the third highest-ranked team in the Pac-12 behind Oregon and Washington which come in at No. 13 and No. 15 respectively.

Arizona State jumped back into the Top 25 after defeating then-No. 15 California. The Sun Devils come in at No. 20, while the Golden Bears fell completely out of the poll to give the Pac-12 just four teams in the Top 25, down from six two weeks ago.

No. 24 SMU is ranked for the first time since October 21, 1986 after the program received the so-called death penalty for NCAA rules violations and did not compete for two seasons.
