BYU led from start to finish as the Cougars rolled to a 27-3 victory over Stanford Saturday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium. It was another sellout and the largest crowd (64,692) to watch a game since Nov. 24, 2007 vs. Utah (64,749).

It was just the fifth time that BYU was ever favored by more than 20 points against a P4 team, and the Cougars made sure to show why oddsmakers are confident in the team. In fact, if it wasn’t for several penalties in the red zone that wiped away touchdowns, the Cougars would have easily crushed the 20-point spread.

With the victory, BYU improves to 2-0 on the season and has now started the season 2-0 for the six consecutive time under Kalani Sitake.

BYU’s offense didn’t have a lot of opportunities to go the length of the field as the defense forced three turnovers, and even got in on the scoring action as well with a safety in the second quarter. Tiger Bachmeier also recorded a 44-yard punt return to set the Cougars offense up across midfield.

His brother, Bear, — playing in just his second career game as a true freshman — had his moments as he finished the day completing 17-of-27 passes for 175 yards. He had no touchdown passes or interceptions, but he did have a rushing touchdown to make up for it.

LJ Martin had another 100-yard rushing performance as he had a game high 1110 yards on 18 carries, including a 47-yard gain in the first half. Sione Moa added 29 yards on 7 carries and had a rushing touchdown in the win.

Last but not least, Will Ferrin became just the seventh Cougar to make four field goals in a game, joining: Owen Pochman, Ethan Pochman, Jason Chaffetz, Joe Liljenquist, Justin Sorensen and Leonard Chitty.

Andrew Luck, the former Stanford standout and NFL quarterback was on the sidelines as the Cardinals new GM. ESPN’s coverage focused solely on him for much of the game, giving fans a lot to complain about.
