After a tough stretch that featured games against LSU, Wisconsin, Boise State, Mississippi State and rival Utah, many expected the Cougars’ struggles to disappear going up against lowly East Carolina who came into Saturday’s game with just one win on the year.

With BYU averaging just over 10 points per game during that stretch, the Pirates looked to be the perfect recipe for the Cougars who looked to get back on track with an ECU defense that was giving up nearly 50 points and 600 yards per game before the Cougars came to town.

But like it has all season, the Cougar offense couldn’t put drives together thanks to penalties, turnovers, questionable play calls from offensive coordinator Ty Detmer and poor throws by junior quarterback Tanner Mangum. The last time BYU lost seven games in a row was back in 1968 and after seeing enough, fans even changed the Wikipedia notes on Detmer, BYU’s only Heisman Trophy winner to vent their frustration.

And as the final seconds ticked off the clock, many former BYU football players vented their frustrations on Twitter after another disappointing and frustrating night for a program who has been very consistent over the past half decade.
