College Football Playoff Rankings: Auburn, Wisconsin Jump In Top 4; Alabama, Miami Tumble

College Football Playoff

There was a lot of changes in the College Football Playoff rankings with the top two teams (Alabama, Miami) losing last week.

But nobody knew quite what to expect from the playoff committee with a number of deserving teams all playing for just four playoff spots.

As of Tuesday night, Clemson, the defending champs, assumed the No. 1 ranking followed by No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 4 Wisconsin with just one week left in the regular season.

Alabama is just on the outside looking in at No. 5 followed by Georgia at No. 6. Both the Bulldogs and the Tigers will meet in the SEC Championship game. Georgia looks to bounce back after losing its only game of the season in a 40-17 loss to Auburn.

In other conference championship games this week, No. 7 Miami faces No. 1 Clemson for the ACC title and No. 8 Ohio State takes on No. 4 Wisconsin for the Big 10 championship. In the Pac-12 title game, No. 10 USC faces No. 12 Stanford and No. 3 Oklahoma takes on No. 11 TCU in a Big 12 rematch.

If you are a fan of chaos and wanting the playoff expanded, you should be cheering for Oklahoma and Wisconsin to lose as the loss would open up a huge debate and put pressure on expanding to eight teams or following the model that the FCS level uses.

Here’s a list of the rankings this week…
