It was the first double overtime game in the 104-year history of the Rose Bowl and the first-ever in College Football Playoff history.
Facing quarterback Baker Mayfield, the 2017 Heisman Trophy Winner, the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs came up with two huge stops in overtime to outlast No. 2 Oklahoma, 54-48 in a record-setting Rose Bowl game.
With the win, Georgia will face Alabama in the National championship game on January 8th after dominating Clemson Saturday night in the Sugar Bowl.
Oklahoma looked like it had the game won as Georgia running back Sony Michel fumbled the ball which landed right into the hands of Oklahoma’s Steven Parker who returned the fumble 46 yards for a touchdown with just over six minutes left to play to give the Sooners a 45-38 lead.

However, Georgia running back Nick Chubb scored with 55 seconds to play on a 2-yard run to send the game into overtime.
Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenship connected on a 38-yard field goal to give Georgia a 48-45 lead in overtime. However, Oklahoma’s Austin Seibert’s followed it up with a 33-yard field goal to send it to double overtime.
Again, Oklahoma had to settle for a field goal, however, Georgia’s Lorenzo Carter came up with the biggest block of his life as he deflected Seibert’s kick to setup the game-winning play for the Bulldogs.
On 2nd-and-12, Michel took a direct snap out of the wildcat and raced around the left side before sprinting into the end zone for the game-winning score and sending the Bulldogs to the national championship where Georgia looks to win its first title since 1980.
Georgia entered the game allowing just 13.2 points and 270.9 yards per game. However, led by Mayfield who threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns as well as catching a touchdown, the Sooners racked up 531 yards of total offense.
Georgia was led by freshman quarterback Jake Fromm who completed 20 of 29 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Michel had 181 yards and three touchdowns and Nick Chubb added 145 yards and two scores on the ground for the Bulldogs in the win.
