No. 1 Clemson quieted the critics and more than likely claimed the top spot in the College Football Playoff with a convincing 38-3 victory over Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.
The Tigers (12-1) were never threatened as they led from start to finish. Meanwhile, Miami (10-2,) has now lost two consecutive games after climbing as high as No. 2 in the CFP rankings two weeks ago.
Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant set a championship game record — and surpassed his friend and former teammate Deshaun Watson’s mark — by completing his first 15 passes and the finished completing 23 of 29 passes for 252 yards passing and a touchdown to clinch Clemson’s third consecutive ACC crown.
Bryant also recorded a rushing touchdown as the Tigers had 77 rushing yards on the ground to go with four touchdowns.
With Miami’s highly publicized bling-covered “Turnover Chain” — given to any player with an interception of a fumble recovery — it was the Tigers who won the turnover battle as the Hurricanes finished the game with with its fewest points and yards of the season.
Clemson celebrated afterwards as players cut the chain which was a replica of Miami’s “Turnover Chain.”
